Brief Profile

Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (SORECO II) emerged as a transformative force in electrifying the Sorsogon region, evolving from a small local electric plant to a dynamic cooperative serving multiple municipalities. Established on April 14, 1977, the cooperative has navigated challenges and growth, ultimately becoming a critical infrastructure provider for the local community.

Founding

1977

Established on April 14, 1977, with an initial franchise covering 8 municipalities: Donsol, Pilar, Castilla, Sorsogon, Bacon, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, and Barcelona.

Initial Operation

Early Years

Started with 2,595 consumers in 17 barangays, using an initial capital of ₱16 Million from the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

Conversion

Development Phase

Transformed from a non-stock, non-profit cooperative to a stock cooperative in 1996, registered with the Cooperative Development Authority under Registration No. QC-1487-EC-005.

Service Area

Expansion

Provides electrical services across multiple municipalities, with continuous expansion of its distribution network and energization of new barangays.

Additional Services

Growth

Beyond electricity, the cooperative has explored secondary purposes like cable TV systems, with a CATV system launched in Bacon district in 1999.

Current Status

Present

Continues to operate as an electric cooperative, with ongoing efforts to improve service efficiency, reduce system losses, and serve its member-consumers.
